Advent Music at Holy Trinity: Welcome to Andrew Donaldson and Wendy Wyatt Donaldson

Holy Trinity invited Andrew Donaldson to coordinate music for our Advent Sundays. He and his wife, Wendy, have been part of our Advent Planning Team, along with Susie Henderson, Jennifer Henry, Clara Pasieka and Sherman Hesselgrave. Andrew will also collaborate with the Fallen Angles on the service for Advent IV. Several of their friends have also joined Holy Trinity’s singers to prepare and lead congregational songs on Sundays. Lifting Spirits and voices

Lifting Spirits just finished its second edition. Thirty years earlier, almost to the day, The Cowboy Junkies recorded their breakout album, The Trinity Session right here at HT. The sound in our space is amazing and we made good use of it. Pub Choir sang three songs from that album and did three more that were a little easier to wrap our lips around and made the room ring.

James Harbeck took some great pictures, though they seem to miss many people, maybe he has more to share. 🙂 Continue reading Lifting Spirits and voices

The Burnt Door Concert: A Huge Success!

On Friday, October 20th, more than 150 people gathered at Holy Trinity to hear a concert in support of new church doors, which must be replaced due to fire damage. As a parishioner put it, more than a fundraiser, it was also a great “friendraiser”. Fabulous music, delicious food, inventive cocktails and community spirit made this event special. Social Media Sunday at Holy Trinity

This past Sunday, we participated in the Diocese-led event Social Media Sunday. Members of the congregation and our admin assistant Kate posted to our social media accounts from church, from music rehearsals, and from the Great Lakes Water Walk with the hashtag #SMS17.

The posts add up to a beautiful archive of one day in the life of Holy Trinity. It showcases our values, and how we enact them. See the story for yourself at:

Music Mondays completes “best ever” 26th Season

Music Mondays, the lunchtime concert series, has completed its 26th Season. The 18 concerts ran from
1st May to 28th August, 2017.
Ian Grundy, our Artistic Director, designed an excellent season of eclectic and diverse programming which garnered many compliments from our audience, “the best ever” said one regular.
We are grateful to the Church of the Holy Trinity, for hosting the series. The church building’s acoustics are magnificent. We have a suggested an audience donation of $5.00 each to make the concerts as accessible as possible. We were delighted to welcome an average audience of 110. Many audience members met up with friends and had lunch in the café afterwards. Continue reading Music Mondays completes “best ever” 26th Season

Church on Fire: Burnt Door Concert

In the early hours of August 23, Holy Trinity was set on fire by an arsonist. Due to the quick thinking of someone who was sleeping in the square and who called emergency services, the church suffered no worse damage than the burning of the west door. We are very grateful to him for taking action to save the church.

A temporary door has been installed, and the west entrance remains out of commission. The police have detained the person alleged to have set the fire.

To replace the doors will cost about $60 000 overall, and we as a parish must come up with the deductible of $2500. To support this goal, the Burnt Door Concert is being planned for October 20th at 7:30 pm. It will be an eclectic mix of pop and classical music. Mark your calendars! Tickets are available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3094438

If you wish, you may donate now through Canada Helps. Continue reading Church on Fire: Burnt Door Concert

Many Waters

Here are a few excerpts from our recent Sunday gathering: Many Waters.

Come, launch the light canoe;
The breeze is fresh and strong:

The summer skies are blue,
And ’tis joy to float along;
Away o’er the waters.
The bright-glancing waters,
The many-voiced waters.
As they dance in light and song.

Susanna Moodie

Today we have gathered and we see that the cycles of life continue.
We have been given the duty to live in balance and harmony
with each other and all living things.
So now, we bring our minds together as one as we give greetings and thanks to each other as people.

(Excerpt from Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address, Greetings to the Natural World)

Lace your boots,
pick up your paddle,
mount your bike and go out
blessing each other—
strong, brave, laughing
and making hope wherever you may.
Amen.
